Senior Laboratory Sorting Technician

Main Purpose of Role:

To take a senior technical role within the laboratory, leading on semen assessment, media preparation, operation of production flow cytometry sorters, and the processing and freezing of semen samples. The role carries responsibility for high standards of quality, compliance, equipment care, and record‑keeping, while providing technical expertise, support, and guidance to colleagues within the lab.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate as a senior technical specialist, ensuring full compliance at all times with CBL Health & Safety requirements, SOPs, policies, regulatory standards, and industry best practice.

Work with a high level of autonomy across core laboratory operations, including semen assessment, media preparation, processing, freezing, and production flow cytometry sorting, in line with production plans and laboratory standards.

Act as a technical point of reference within the lab, supporting consistency, accuracy, and best practice across production activities.

Ensure GxP standards are fully applied and maintained across media preparation, sample processing, equipment use, and the wider working environment.

Perform, monitor, and interpret process controls during sorter operation and laboratory workflows, taking appropriate corrective action and escalating deviations where required.

Take ownership of workflow organisation, task prioritisation, and efficient use of laboratory resources to support production targets.

Ensure the correct use, care, routine maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of laboratory and flow cytometry equipment, escalating technical issues appropriately.

Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation and records in line with regulatory and internal requirements.

Collaborate effectively with the wider laboratory team, sharing knowledge, supporting colleague development, and contributing to continuous improvement within the department.

Support improvements to processes, systems, and ways of working to enhance quality, efficiency, and compliance.

Undertake other duties appropriate to the seniority of the role as required.

Desirable Skills and Attributes:

Proven experience working to high technical and quality standards within a regulated laboratory environment.

Strong attention to detail with a methodical, organised, and analytical approach to work.

Well‑developed problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills, particularly in a production or operational setting.

Confident working autonomously, with the judgement to take ownership and accountability for outcomes.

Strong IT capability, with confidence using laboratory systems, interfaces, and digital records.

Effective team working skills, with the ability to support, guide, and positively influence colleagues.

Sound technical understanding of laboratory equipment and processes, with the ability to quickly develop in‑depth knowledge of flow cytometry sorters.
